Solar wholesale Midsummer is trading at a level that is three times its sales volumes from a year ago, as demand for solar continues to be strong.

Amid the high power prices in Britain, the need to transition to secure and green domestic renewable generation has been given further impetus.

Throughout the renewables space therefore, companies have been reporting surging demand, leading to Midsummer expanding its operations in line.

"Expanding capacity this quickly against a backdrop of supply chain challenges hasn't been easy, but it's rewarding to be bringing enthusiastic talent into the renewables industry,” said Jamie Vaux, commercial director at Midsummer.

“We're well set up to keep growing in 2023, and the uptake of our software has been growing at an even faster rate."

As part of its expansion, Midsummer – which won the Solar and Storage Live distributor of the year award – has begun operations from its new 35,000sq ft warehouse in Glasgow.

Over the first six months of 2022, there was an 80% growth in the installation of new solar PV in the UK in comparison to 2021, with 556MW of capacity installed.

Growth has been seen across all segments, with domestic installers such as Naked Solar also reporting expansion, as VAT reductions, Supertax reductions for businesses and rising electricity bills have led to “a significant solar boom” over the year.
