China’s Sinomach Eyes Renewable Energy Projects in Serbia

Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlović said following a meeting with representatives of Chinese conglomerate Sinomach that all companies from China are welcome to work in Serbia, especially on large infrastructural projects in power generation and renewable energy. Such projects will soak the bulk of the EUR 17 billion that is planned to be invested in Serbia’s mining and energy sector, according to her.

Sinomach is interested in expanding its operations into this part of Europe, said a company representative, according to a press release from the Mining and Energy Ministry following the meeting.

According to him, there are great opportunities in Serbia in the fields of wind farms, hydropower plants, and mining. Sinomach, he said, is among the world’s 500 leading companies in transport, military, and power infrastructure.

CMEC, part of the Sinomach group, will build Belgrade’s main wastewater treatment facility

The City of Belgrade signed an agreement in early 2020 with China Machinery Engineering Corp. (CMEC), part of the Sinomach group, authorizing the Chinese company to start the preparatory activity for a project to build a wastewater collection and treatment system in the Serbian capital, estimated at up to EUR 771 million in total. The first phase is the central collector, valued at EUR 271 million.
