15 Aug 2021  by Xinhua Silk Road

The ±660kV Matiari-Lahore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission project has started power transmission recently, marking that the first large-scale power transmission project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) begin to work at the heavy load stage, reported People's Daily Monday.

Started in December 2018, the construction of the project was undertaken by the State Grid Corporation of China, and the transmission line is expected to put into commercial operation within this year after trial operation of heavy load transmission.

The project is able to transmit over 30 billion kilowatt-hours per year after being put into operation, and supply stable and high-quality power for around 10 million local households.

It is noted that around 7,000 local jobs were created during the construction of the project in Pakistan.
