Siemens Gamesa kicks off production at Taiwan plant

04 Aug 2021  by renews.biz

Siemens Gamesa has begun production at its offshore wind turbine nacelle factory in Taiwan.

The facility, located in Taichung, is Siemens Gamesa’s first offshore wind nacelle assembly site outside of Europe.

The factory has now officially started production by assembling the first wind turbine nacelle in Taiwan, reinforcing the manufacturer’s local footprint in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific market.

The parcel of land on which the factory is situated measures over 30,000 square meters.

It will support Orsted’s 900MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a project, where SG 8.0-167 DD turbines will be used.

Other projects in the region Siemens Gamesa has secured turbine deals for include the two further phases of the 1044MW Hai Long offshore wind farm, the Hai Long 2B (232MW) and Hai Long 3 (512MW) projects.

The deal was announced in May this year.
