Video: Plan for UK's First Deep Coal Mine in 30 Years to be Reviewed

05 Mar 2021  by Al Jazeera English

Plans in the UK to build the first new deep coal mine in 30 years have brought criticism from climate-change activists. West Cumbria Mining says its coal would not fuel power stations, rather it would be for steel production, which will be in big demand for green infrastructure. The mayor agrees. But protesters say the company's PR campaign and the mayor's views are flawed, and now the local authority has agreed to review the plan. Al Jazeera’s Andrew Simmons reports from Whitehaven, Cumbria, UK.
