Indian solar company Tata Power Solar has received a letter of award to construct a 320MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic project.

NTPC awarded the contract with a commercial operation date of May 2022. A spokesperson for Tata Power Solar, a subsidiary of Tata Power, said that the contract is worth approximately $162m (Rs12bn).

Tata Power managing director and CEO Praveer Sinha said: “Tata Power is in the forefront of producing green energy across the country. Such achievement demonstrates the trust and leadership of Tata Power’s project management capability and execution skills in solar projects.”

As per the terms of the contract, Tata Power Solar will take responsibility for land acquisition, engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning of the grid-connected solar project on a turnkey basis.

Additionally, the company will provide operations and maintenance services to the solar plant for a period of three years, and for the power evacuation system and telemetry up to the interconnecting state transmission utility substation.

With this addition, the order pipeline of Tata Power Solar stands at nearly 4GW at peak, with value of $1.6bn (Rs120bn).

In June last year, Tata Power Renewable Energy received a letter of award from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam for developing a 120MW solar project in the state of Gujarat.

Tata agreed to supply energy from the solar facility to the utility, a subsidiary of Tata Power.
