Global wind turbine major Siemens Gamesa on Monday said it has received a firm order from Adani Green Energy for the Fatehgarh, Rajasthan project to install 215 SG 2.2-122 wind turbines, totalling 473 megawatt (MW), to be manufactured at its facilities in India.

The project is expected to be commissioned by September 2021. Siemens Gamesa will manufacture, supply, install, and pre-commission the wind turbines for the project under the agreement.

This is one of the largest orders on record for the Spanish firm in India. With this order the existing contracted capacity of the Siemens Gamesa–Adani partnership has reached about 860 MW.

Siemens Gamesa had earlier signed projects for a total capacity of 391.2 MW with Adani in which 87.6 MW has already been commissioned and the remaining is under construction, it said in a press release.

“Such large deals demonstrate the industry’s commitment towards renewable energy and reiterate the growing importance of renewable energy in the country’s energy portfolio,” said Navin Dewaji, chief executive officer (India), Siemens Gamesa.

The company has two blade factories in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, and a nacelle factory and an operations and maintenance center in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
