Nordex Secures Wind Turbine Supply Contract for 312MW Project in Spain

German company Nordex has secured a wind turbine supply and installation contract in Spain from Israeli power utility Enlight Renewable Energy for the 312MW Gecama wind farm.

Located near Cuenca in the region of Castilla-La Mancha, Gecama is the first wind project for Enlight Renewable Energy in Spain, as well as the first joint project with Nordex Group.

Nordex Group CSO Patxi Landa said: “We are pleased that our technology is able to make a major contribution to the expansion of wind energy in Spain with another project.

“We are happy to support Enlight with its first wind project in this country and are delighted that Israel’s largest wind farm developer and operator has opted for the turbines from the Delta4000 series.

“In addition to the low cost of energy and high yields, the N149/4.0-4.5 is particularly suitable for the local wind conditions.”

According to the contract, Nordex Group will install its Delta4000 turbines with a hub height of 120m on concrete towers that will be produced at its new factory in Motilla del Palancar, Castilla-La Mancha.

Operations are expected to start next month. The company has also agreed to service the wind turbines for a period of 20 years, as well as manufacture nacelles and rotor blades for the Gecama wind project.

Enlight Renewable Energy CEO Gilad Yavetz said: “The Gecama project, the largest wind farm in Spain, will provide clean energy to 260,000 households and prevent emissions of 150,000t of CO2 per year. This project is another achievement for us on our long journey.”

Last month, Nordex secured a supply contract from renewable project developer ABO Wind in Finland. Under the agreement, Nordex agreed to supply nine N149/4.0-4.5 turbines for the Kokkoneva wind facility.
