Global energy company Shell has signed a deal with technology and certification services firm Bureau Veritas for the provision of solutions to help the company to reduce its carbon footprint from global operations.

Bureau Veritas will provide support and help to enable Shell to monitor, quantify, control, and minimise carbon emissions within its oil and natural gas operations.

Shell has set a target to maintain methane emissions intensity below 0.2% by 2025 and will leverage Bureau Veritas’ Leak Detection and Repair solutions.

The energy company will also be provided with Optical Gas Imaging, laser, and ultrasonic technologies and drones to optimise inspections of its plants and operations.

“We support a climate change mitigation-oriented strategy while supporting the development of activities in the Energy sector. Leak detection management is a crucial operation to help reconcile these challenges by improving the health and safety of employees, minimising environmental impact and improving energy efficiency,” stated Bruno Ferreyra, Executive Vice President Oil & Gas Service Line for Bureau Veritas.
