France’s Voltalia SA today announced the full commissioning of its 163-MW VSM 1 wind farm in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte state.

The power plant is part of the 2.4-GW Serra Branca wind and solar cluster that is the largest one of its kind globally, the renewable power plants operator said in a press release. Its 47 turbines are expected to be capable of generating electricity that will meet the demand of about 442,000 local homes. The output will be sold through 20-year fixed-price contracts awarded in 2017.

The Serra Branca complex will cover an area of almost 40,000 ha (99,000 acres). Currently, the site has 472 MW of operational capacity, 278 MW of plants under construction and 329 MW of projects secured through long-term power sales contracts that have still not entered the construction phase. Additionally, more than 700 MW of projects are under development.
