EPH to Replace N.Ireland Coal-Fired Plant with Gas-Fired Unit

09 May 2020  by Reuters
Czech energy group EPH plans to replace its coal-fired power plant at Kilroot in Northern Ireland with a 300-megawatt gas-fired station after securing a 10-year capacity contract to supply the transmission grid, the company said on Thursday.

EPH, which owns power plants across Europe, entered the British market five years ago when it acquired the coal-fired Eggborough power station, which is no longer in operation. The group is considering replacing it with a gas-fired unit.

Its plant at Lynemouth has also been converted to biomass, and the company said the decommissioning of Kilroot's coal-fired unit would complete a withdrawal from coal in Britain.
