Total Eren Presents EIS for 150-MW PV Project in Chile

Paris-based independent power producer (IPP) Total Eren SA is seeking to secure the environmental permit for the 150-MW Santa Isabel II solar photovoltaic (PV) project it plans to build in the Chilean region of Antofagasta.

Last Thursday, a Total Eren representative submitted the environmental impact statement (EIS) on behalf of project company TS3 SpA, informing the Chilean permitting authority that TS3 had acquired Santa Isabel II from TSGF SpA.

TSGF SpA, a company formed by US PV equipment maker SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) and France's Total SA (EPA:FP), secured the approval to build the 408-MW Santa Isabel PV project in Antofagasta in 2017. The project was to be developed in three stages, according to archived documents in the Chilean environmental permitting database (SEIA).

In October 2019, Total Eren announced it had acquired from SunPower a 50% stake in the Santa Isabel project, then said to be of 190-MWp capacity. The French company said it would seek to develop the project’s extensions.

In the EIS filing for Santa Isabel II, Total Eren informed that the new project is the third stage of the original Santa Isabel scheme. It will be built, operated and owned independently from the original project.

Santa Isabel II will require an investment of USD 200 million (EUR 183.9m). The PV park will feature around 356,000 solar panels installed in the commune of Maria Elena, Tocopilla province, the new filing shows.
