Indiana Regulators Approve NIPSCO, EDP Renewables Deal for 302-MW Wind Farm

29 Feb 2020  by Selene Balasta
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved a proposal by Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and EDP Renewables North America LLC for a proposed build-and-transfer transaction for the 302-MW Indiana Crossroads wind farm.

NIPSCO, a NiSource Inc. subsidiary, was granted a certificate of public convenience and necessity Feb. 19 to acquire indirectly through a joint venture the Indiana Crossroads wind farm in White County, Ind., from EDP Renewables.

The project was selected through a request for proposals process that NIPSCO conducted as part of its 2018 integrated resource plan. It is expected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2021.

NIPSCO is also approved to buy the output of the wind facility and recover associated costs through a rate adjustment mechanism under its fuel adjustment clause.

EDP Renewables, the wind project's developer, is a subsidiary of EDP - Energias de Portugal SA
