ENAL gained exclusive rights to use, exploit, and develop the Celaya Geothermal Area for electricity generation and other industrial thermal applications, including heating and productive processes. The authorization was framed by SENER as part of the energy transition programs embedded in the National Energy Plan.
Carso Energy's annual reports confirm that the concession application process began during 2024. The initial configuration of the plant calls for a 26MW capacity in binary-cycle technology, alongside the perforation and evaluation of four wells of at least 2,000m depth. The investment will cover infrastructure for capturing the geothermal resource, generation installations, and distribution systems connecting to the national electricity grid.
