On April 4, Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Co., Ltd. announced that the pumped storage power station located in Yulin, Guangxi, has fully commenced construction of its main project. This project is a key initiative in the national pumped storage energy plan, with a total investment of 8.36 billion yuan.

The Yulin Pumped Storage Power Station will be equipped with four 300,000-kilowatt units, with a total installed capacity and regulation capability of 1.2 million kilowatts and 2.4 million kilowatts, respectively. The station can convert 1.2 million cubic meters of water energy into 1.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per hour, sufficient to supply the daily electricity consumption of approximately 200,000 residents.
The station is located in a critical area for the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, with abundant clean energy resources in the surrounding region. Ma Jiashun, General Manager of the Yulin Pumped Storage Project Department at Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Company, stated, "The station will provide stable regulation for the Yulin power grid, where the proportion of new energy exceeds 90%, and support the efficient operation of the Beibu Gulf offshore wind power base and coastal nuclear power projects." It is expected that the station will commence operation in 2029, capable of absorbing 2.16 billion kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.9 million tons.
The construction of the Yulin Pumped Storage Power Station will drive upstream and downstream investments exceeding 18 billion yuan, create about 5,000 job opportunities, and promote coordinated development in the pumped storage energy sector between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone through mechanized construction and intelligent management.
