SK On Co. has given its U.S. battery joint venture (JV) with Hyundai Motor Group the name Hyundai-SK Battery Manufacturing America (HSBMA), according to the South Korean battery manufacturer on March 27.
According to SK On's LinkedIn post, the JV has adopted HSBMA as its official name and announced it on its own social media channel.
SK On and Hyundai Motor announced the establishment of the joint venture in April 2023. While the plant is scheduled to begin commercial operations within the year, its construction is currently over 90 percent complete, according to informed sources.
The US$5 billion facility, located in Bartow County, Georgia, will have an annual production capacity of 35 gigawatt-hours (GWh), enough to power around 300,000 electric vehicles (EVs).
