India has achieved one billion tonne coal production for the second consecutive year, the Coal Ministry stated, attributing the milestone to sustained and coordinated efforts across the sector and contributions from multiple stakeholders.
Officials highlighted that higher output has supported record coal inventories at thermal power plants. The ministry said proactive policy measures, close performance monitoring, and active stakeholder engagement have ensured reliable coal supply and smooth operations across sectors. It noted that strong planning, efficient execution, and tighter coordination across the coal value chain were key to this achievement, which also bolstered the nation’s economic growth. The ministry framed the results as consistent with the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
