PowerX, Inc. has announced plans to set up a new manufacturing facility in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, as part of its strategy to expand renewable energy solutions in Japan. The upcoming plant, named “Power Base Hokkaido,” will focus on producing large-scale battery storage systems and is expected to begin operations by June 2027. The company plans to invest around 3.0 billion yen in the project.
The new facility will manufacture the “Mega Power 2500,” a containerized Battery Energy Storage System designed for grid-scale applications. These systems are built inside 10-foot containers and are aimed at supporting renewable energy integration, especially solar power. Once fully operational, the plant is expected to produce up to 800 units annually, with a total storage capacity of about 2 GWh. This production will help meet the growing demand for energy storage solutions in regions such as Hokkaido and Tohoku, which have strong potential for renewable energy development.
