According to the plan, the solar power generation of these projects is expected to commence in the second quarter of 2026, with the battery systems scheduled to become operational in the third quarter. This project is described as one of the first structured financings by a Portuguese commercial bank for hybrid solar and battery storage projects.
These two projects were designed as hybrid facilities from the construction phase to enable joint operation and improve the match between power generation and electricity demand. Sonnedix stated that this approach aims to optimize energy management and support the integration of renewable energy into the grid.
Sonnedix entered the Portuguese market in 2022 and currently operates 301.3 MW of capacity in the country, with a pipeline of over 300 MW under construction and development. Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said, "The completion of this financing is a key step in consolidating our hybridization strategy in Europe."
"Integrating storage into our renewable energy assets allows us to provide greater flexibility, optimize portfolio value, and make a tangible contribution to the stability of Portugal's electricity system."
