The 140MW BESS is located near Port Augusta in South Australia. It is the first core component of the "Sustained Energy Hub" that 1414 Degrees plans to build, aiming to serve data centers and other high-energy-consumption industrial users. In addition to the battery system, the broader Aurora Energy Project will also pilot the company's proprietary SiBox thermal energy storage technology. This technology utilizes the property of silicon melting at 1414°C to store thermal energy and can simultaneously provide electricity and industrial heat. It is particularly suitable for long-duration energy storage and decarbonizing high-temperature industrial processes.
