Denmark’s Second Largest PV Plant Goes Online

08 Dec 2025  by pv-magazine
Alight has officially commissioned the 215 MW Lidsø solar park in Lolland municipality, southern Denmark. The facility is currently the second-largest solar plant in the country.

Construction of the Lidsø project began in summer 2024. Developed and built by European Energy, the solar park has been acquired and is now owned and operated by Alight, with debt financing provided by SEB and Svensk Exportkredit.

The plant features approximately 350,000 solar panels and incorporates year-round sheep grazing for landscape management. Electricity generated will be supplied to Danish State Railways (DSB) under a long-term power purchase agreement.

"The park includes around 350,000 solar panels, and more than 1,700 sheep grazing all year round," Alight stated. "Lidsø is owned and operated by Alight, with debt financing by SEB & SEK Svensk Exportkredit."

The transaction was completed in March when Alight purchased the project from European Energy.

"With Lidsø, we mark Alight's entry into the Danish market – and this is just the beginning," said Jens-Peter Zink, deputy CEO of European Energy. "We are committed to scaling PPA-backed solar power across the Nordics and helping energy-intensive businesses transition to reliable, cost-effective renewable power."

Denmark's largest operating solar facility remains the 304 MW Kassø Solar Park near Rødekro. At the end of 2024, the country's total installed solar capacity exceeded 4 GW, according to Dansk Solcelleforening, the Danish PV association. The organisation anticipates continued strong growth, driven primarily by utility-scale projects, with around 750 MW expected to be added in 2025 and 1 GW in 2026.

Alight aims to reach more than 5 GW of operational solar capacity across its portfolio by the end of the decade. Recent milestones include commissioning Sweden's largest solar park (64 MW) in Hallstavik in March and securing Finland's largest solar PPA (100 MW) with automotive supplier Autoliv.
