Alcazar, Siemens Gamesa Sign 500MW Egypt Wind Pact

Alcazar Energy Partners (AEP) has signed a share sale and purchase agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to acquire full ownership of the 500 MW NIAT Wind Project in Egypt. Following completion of the transaction and necessary approvals, AEP will take responsibility for final development, construction, and long-term operation of the facility.

Siemens Gamesa, which originated and advanced the project, will remain a strategic partner through the remaining development phase and is expected to supply turbines and associated services.

Daniel Calderon, co-founder of AEP, stated: “Siemens Gamesa has played a central role in installing large scale wind projects across the region and we are pleased to partner with them once again as we advance the NIAT wind farm. This project is an important contribution to Egypt’s clean energy transition and a strong addition to Alcazar Energy Partner’s growing portfolio. We are also pleased to draw on Siemens Gamesa’s expertise as we work to deploy their turbines technology in the country.”

Once operational, the NIAT wind farm is projected to generate up to 2.5 TWh of clean electricity annually, sufficient to supply approximately 280,000 households while avoiding more than 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions each year. The project will also create up to 2,500 jobs during construction and operation phases and has attracted interest from several development financial institutions.

The initiative supports Egypt’s target of achieving 42 percent renewable electricity generation by 2030 and adds to AEP’s established presence in the country’s renewable energy sector. Since 2014, AEP has been the largest equity investor in the Benban Solar Park, where it developed four projects totalling 256 MWp.

In November 2024, AEP signed a framework agreement with the Government of Egypt – represented by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) – for the development of a separate 2 GW onshore wind platform.

The NIAT transaction combines AEP’s regional development experience with Siemens Gamesa’s technical capabilities, positioning the project for timely progression toward financial close and construction start. Both partners emphasised their commitment to delivering a high-quality utility-scale wind facility that contributes meaningfully to Egypt’s sustainable energy objectives.
