Mercuria to Supply Botaş With US-Sourced LNG Until 2045

Global energy and commodity company Mercuria has signed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchase and sale agreement with Türkiye’s state-owned Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ). The contract, signed during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in the United States, will see BOTAŞ receiving 4 billion cubic meters (cbm) of natural gas equivalent of LNG annually, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026 and continue until the end of 2045.

Mercuria stated that the LNG volumes will be delivered on both a free-on-board (FOB) basis from U.S. loading ports and a delivered ex-ship (DES) basis at regasification terminals located in Türkiye, Europe, and North Africa. The arrangement is expected to support BOTAŞ in ensuring reliable supply during high-demand periods, particularly in winter.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, BOTAŞ Chairman and General Manager Abdulvahit Fidan, and Mercuria President and Co-Founder Daniel Jaeggi. Bayraktar highlighted the importance of the partnership, saying: “Today, we have signed a milestone agreement which will be in place for the upcoming 20 years to deliver US-sourced LNG. We firmly believe that a partnership with Mercuria under such an agreement will enable BOTAŞ to form a significant presence in the global LNG scene. The agreement will also greatly contribute to achieving 100 billion USD of trade volume with the United States.”

The deal is expected to strengthen Türkiye’s long-term energy security by diversifying supply sources and stabilizing LNG prices. It also aligns with BOTAŞ’s strategy to expand its role in global LNG trade. By securing consistent LNG volumes, Türkiye aims to enhance resilience in its energy system and meet the needs of domestic and regional markets.

Mercuria, a global energy group with activities spanning commodities trading and infrastructure, has also been expanding its LNG business in other markets. Earlier this year, its subsidiary concluded an LNG supply agreement with Guangzhou Gas Group, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Development Group in China. That deal is intended to contribute to diversifying China’s energy mix and strengthening supply options.

Together, these agreements underscore Mercuria’s growing role in LNG markets across multiple regions while supporting national energy strategies focused on supply stability and long-term growth. For BOTAŞ, the partnership reflects a significant step toward consolidating its position in international LNG trade while securing reliable energy for Türkiye and its regional partners.
