Saint-Gobain Reorganizes Construction Chemicals Activities in Germany

11 Sep 2025  by chemengonline
Saint-Gobain S.A., headquartered in Courbevoie, France, announced a major reorganization of its construction chemicals operations in Germany to strengthen its market position and accelerate growth. The plan, unveiled in September 2025, involves two key initiatives: the transfer of Saint-Gobain Weber GmbH’s dry mortars business to Franken Maxit Mauermörtel GmbH & Co. KG, and the integration of all other construction chemicals activities under the Weber, GCP, and Chryso brands.

The transfer of the Weber dry mortars business, which recorded revenues of about €170 million in 2024, will significantly expand Franken Maxit. Previously focused mainly on southern and eastern Germany, the joint venture will become one of the largest dry mortar producers in the country. Franken Maxit, 50% owned by Saint-Gobain, will now operate 17 locations across Germany and the Czech Republic. The company will employ more than 1,200 people, including around 400 employees from Saint-Gobain Weber. The joint venture will be consolidated using the equity-accounting method.

At the same time, Saint-Gobain is integrating its other construction chemicals operations in Germany, bringing together Weber, GCP, and Chryso brands. This step is aimed at enhancing the development of technical applications and specialty products. By combining resources under a unified local structure, the company expects to build synergies, foster innovation, and deliver tailored solutions for building protection systems, flooring solutions, and infrastructure projects.

The timing of this restructuring coincides with the anticipated stimulus plan in Germany, which is expected to boost demand in the construction sector. Saint-Gobain intends to leverage its enhanced organization to capture growth opportunities by offering differentiated products and advanced technical support.

The company emphasized that the reorganization is designed to better address customer needs, positioning the German operations to respond effectively to evolving market requirements. The closing of the transaction is expected by the end of September 2025.

This development comes as part of Saint-Gobain’s broader global expansion strategy. In 2025, the group has already completed several acquisitions in markets including Canada, Italy, and Peru, further reinforcing its footprint in construction solutions worldwide.

By consolidating its dry mortars business within Franken Maxit and aligning its technical applications and specialty products under one organization, Saint-Gobain aims to establish a national leadership position in Germany’s construction chemicals market. The move reflects the company’s commitment to efficiency, innovation, and sustainable growth.
