ADM Expands Grain Terminal in Canada

10 Sep 2025  by ukragroconsult.
ADM Agri-Industries has completed the expansion of its grain terminal at Port Windsor, Ontario, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project enhances the company’s ability to support agricultural production in southwestern Ontario while strengthening export capacity to international markets.

The expansion includes modern grain dryers, a new roadway and kiosk system for loading soybean and canola meal, increased meal storage at the ADM crush plant, and newly built silos with upgraded conveyance systems to streamline the loading of grain and meal for export. These improvements are designed to ensure more efficient handling of agricultural commodities, supporting the growth of local farming and trade.

ADM confirmed in its September 4 announcement that the expanded terminal will serve markets in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. The facility primarily handles soybeans, canola, and corn produced by farmers across Essex, Kent, Lambton, Middlesex, and Elgin counties in Ontario.

The project began in early 2024 in partnership with Transport Canada and was supported by funding from the National Trade Corridors Fund. The fund provided an investment of up to $26.3 million toward the $76 million expansion, helping to advance infrastructure development at Port Windsor.

Kevin Wright, general manager of ADM Great Lakes Region, said: “This expansion offers multiple beneficial effects on the local economy, including increasing demand for locally grown products, supporting and growing the regional transportation industry, and contributing to increased use of marine logistics. We want to thank Transport Canada and the National Trade Corridors Fund for their support of this expansion project and their investment in Windsor, Ontario.”

The terminal’s expanded capacity is expected to provide significant benefits to both farmers and the wider supply chain by opening new opportunities for exports. It also supports marine transport as an efficient alternative for moving large volumes of grain and meal to overseas destinations.

ADM is recognized as the largest grain handling company in North America, according to Sosland Publishing Co.’s 2025 Grain & Milling Annual. The company operates 355 grain storage facilities with a combined licensed capacity of 434.34 million bushels. Its broad infrastructure network enables ADM to connect agricultural producers with global markets while maintaining consistent supply reliability.

The Port Windsor expansion reflects ADM’s ongoing strategy to invest in infrastructure that enhances its service to both growers and end markets. By improving export capabilities and logistics efficiency, the project strengthens the role of southwestern Ontario as a contributor to international grain and oilseed supply.

With this development, ADM continues to support local farmers, expand market reach, and reinforce the economic vitality of the region while advancing trade connections across multiple continents.
