Orlen Signs 12-Month Deal With Equinor for Supply of 15% Oil It Uses

30 Aug 2025  by Reuters
Polish refiner Orlen has entered into a one-year agreement with Equinor, a Norwegian energy company, to supply over 6 million tons of crude oil. This contract, announced on Friday, will meet approximately 15% of the annual crude oil needs for Orlen’s refining operations.

Poland's largest refiner Orlen (PKN.WA) logo is displayed at their petrol station in Bialystok, Poland, October 2, 2023.

Starting next month, oil shipments will originate from the Norwegian port of Mongstad. The deliveries are destined for Orlen’s refineries in Poland, with potential allocations to facilities in Lithuania and the Czech Republic, depending on operational requirements.

Orlen’s CEO, Ireneusz Fafara, highlighted the significance of the deal: "We are strengthening the energy security of Poland and the region as a whole. We have fully eliminated Russian crude from all our refineries, which was made possible through effective diversification of supply sources."

The company sources its crude oil from various regions, including the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, the North Sea, Africa, and the Americas. This diversified approach supports Orlen’s strategy to ensure a stable and reliable supply chain for its refining operations across multiple countries.

This agreement underscores Orlen’s commitment to maintaining consistent energy supplies while enhancing regional energy stability through strategic partnerships.
