Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a leading engineering and construction firm, has been awarded a contract by Adani Power, India’s largest private thermal power producer, to establish eight thermal power units. Each unit will have a capacity of 800MW, resulting in a total new generation capacity of 6.4GW. The project will be executed by L&T Energy – CarbonLite Solutions (LTECLS), categorized as an ultra-mega project by L&T.

Each thermal power unit will have a capacity of 800MW, culminating in a total new generation capacity of 6.4GW.

The scope of work includes comprehensive design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, and commissioning of boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) packages, along with auxiliary systems and associated mechanical, electrical, and control and instrumentation (C&I) systems. This initiative will support India’s growing need for reliable electricity, with Adani Power, which operates over 18GW of installed capacity, playing a key role in meeting the country’s baseload energy demands.

LTECLS leverages its extensive expertise in engineering, manufacturing, and project execution, enhanced by collaborations with global industry leaders. Mr. Subramanian Sarma, L&T’s deputy managing director and president, stated: “In today’s dynamic energy landscape, where India’s demand for reliable and affordable power continues to grow, this order from the Adani Group reinforces our role as a leading partner in building the country’s critical energy infrastructure.”

L&T is actively involved in engineering, procurement, construction, high-tech manufacturing, and services across multiple sectors and regions. In a related development, in early August 2025, Adani Power received a letter of intent from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited to supply 2,274MW of electricity to the North and South Bihar Power Distribution Companies. Additionally, in July 2025, Adani Power completed the acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Limited for approximately $466 million.
