Invenergy has successfully initiated commercial operations at the 250MW Fairbanks Solar Energy Center in Sullivan County, Indiana. The company, responsible for the development and construction of the facility, has transferred ownership to Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO). This milestone strengthens Indiana’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The Fairbanks Solar Energy Center is capable of powering more than 50,000 homes and created nearly 275 local construction jobs during its development phase. Invenergy Services will manage the ongoing operation and maintenance of the site, employing four full-time staff members. Over the project’s lifespan, Invenergy plans to invest over $125 million in the local community, supporting economic growth in Sullivan County.

Michael Kaplan, senior vice president of development at Invenergy, stated: “We’re proud to have partnered with NIPSCO and the local community to bring Fairbanks Solar online.” The project reflects a collaborative effort to deliver sustainable energy solutions while fostering local economic benefits.

NIPSCO president Vince Parisi emphasized the project’s importance: “Reliable and cost-effective power sources are essential to Indiana’s energy future.” The facility contributes to the region’s goal of integrating clean energy into its power grid, ensuring stable and affordable electricity for residents.

Sullivan County commissioner Bob Davis noted: “Invenergy’s projects help fund county services and support local development.” The economic contributions from Fairbanks Solar are expected to enhance public services and infrastructure in the region, benefiting the broader community.

The Fairbanks Solar Energy Center marks Invenergy’s second solar facility in Indiana, with the company actively developing additional projects across the state. This expansion underscores Invenergy’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and supporting local economies through sustainable infrastructure investments.

By bringing the Fairbanks Solar Energy Center online, Invenergy and NIPSCO are helping Indiana meet its growing energy demands with clean, reliable power. The project’s focus on community investment and job creation highlights its role in driving both environmental and economic progress in Sullivan County and beyond.
