Plug Power Secures New Hydrogen Supply Agreement in US

11 Jul 2025  by power-technology
Plug Power, a leading provider of hydrogen solutions, has finalized a multi-year hydrogen supply agreement with a U.S.-based industrial gas partner, extending through 2030. Announced in July 2025, this contract ensures a steady hydrogen supply for Plug’s growing applications business while focusing on cost reduction and improved financial performance.

Plug’s expansion efforts include enhancing its domestic generation network.

The agreement strengthens Plug’s ability to serve over 275 customer sites that rely on its hydrogen services. By securing a reliable supply chain, the company aims to enhance operational efficiency and meet increasing demand across various industries. This deal aligns with Plug’s strategy to expand its hydrogen solutions portfolio and improve profitability.

Plug currently operates hydrogen production facilities in Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana, with a combined output of 40 tons of liquid hydrogen per day. To support future growth, the company is developing additional facilities, targeting over 40 new sites by the end of 2025. These efforts are part of Plug’s broader plan to scale its domestic production network and prepare for industry expansion starting in 2026.

Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power, emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating: “This expanded agreement supports our mission to build on our already robust and resilient hydrogen network in the US. As we continue to scale our applications business and build long-term partnerships with customers, reliable supply and cost efficiency are critical. This contract is a win for Plug, our customers, our suppliers, and our margin profile.”

Marsh also highlighted the company’s progress with Project Quantum Leap, an initiative launched in 2025 to optimize costs and enhance cash flow. The new supply contract complements these efforts by immediately reducing operational expenses, further supporting Plug’s financial goals.

The agreement comes amid growing support for clean energy in the U.S., with recent legislation in 2025 promoting sustainable energy solutions. This environment fosters opportunities for companies like Plug to expand their role in the hydrogen sector, which is vital for industries transitioning to cleaner energy sources.

In a related development, Plug Power announced a partnership in June 2025 with Allied Green Ammonia (AGA) to supply a 2GW electrolyser for AGA’s sustainable fuel project in Uzbekistan. This collaboration reflects Plug’s commitment to global hydrogen innovation while strengthening its domestic operations.

Plug’s focus on expanding its hydrogen network and securing long-term partnerships positions it to meet rising demand while advancing cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions.
