Transworld Takes on Its Largest Boxships to Date

Singapore-based Transworld Group has purchased two 2,478 teu sister ships, Seaspan Loga and Seaspan Hannover, from Canadian shipowner Seaspan Corp for a total of $27.5 million, with Seaspan Loga acquired for $13.2 million and Seaspan Hannover for $14.3 million, according to Alphaliner. This acquisition strengthens Transworld’s fleet, expanding its owned vessels to 16 containerships, ranging from 650 to 2,478 teu in capacity.

The two feedermax ships, now the largest in Transworld’s portfolio, enhance its ability to serve key trade routes. Seaspan Loga has been renamed OEL Varun, and a new name for Seaspan Hannover is expected soon. Both vessels continue to operate under time charter agreements with Maersk, facilitating shipping services between the U.S. East Coast and Central America.

Constructed in 2006 at the MTW shipyard in Wismar, Germany, the ships were initially delivered to German shipowner Alfred Hartmann. Seaspan Corp acquired them in 2018, reportedly for approximately $10.5 million each. The vessels’ design supports efficient cargo transport, contributing to reliable maritime logistics.

A Transworld Group spokesperson stated: “The addition of these vessels marks a significant step in expanding our capacity to meet growing trade demands.” The acquisition aligns with Transworld’s strategy to bolster its presence in global shipping, particularly in high-demand regions.

This move supports Transworld’s growth in the container shipping sector, enhancing connectivity and operational efficiency for its clients across international trade routes.
