Tokyo Gas, Ewii Acquire Two Finnish Wind Projects

Tokyo Gas, through its subsidiary TG Nordic, and Danish utility EWII have acquired two onshore wind power projects in Finland via their joint venture, TOWII Renewables. The projects, developed by Finnish renewable energy company Puhuri, are located in Raahe, North Ostrobothnia, and align with Finland’s goal to increase renewable energy to 51% of final energy consumption by 2030.

The Kopsa 3 and Ketunperä wind farms, currently under development, will feature 12 wind turbines with a combined capacity of 74.4 MW. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the first half of 2027. This acquisition marks TOWII Renewables’ first investment in renewable energy projects outside Denmark, expanding its regional footprint.

“Through this partnership, we aim to support sustainable energy development and contribute to local communities,” a Tokyo Gas spokesperson said. The company is committed to achieving net-zero emissions and plans to strengthen collaborations with partners to advance renewable energy initiatives.

The wind farms will bolster Finland’s renewable energy infrastructure, providing clean power to the region. TOWII Renewables’ investment reflects a strategic move to diversify its portfolio and support global efforts toward sustainable energy production. By leveraging existing partnerships and expertise, the joint venture aims to ensure the projects’ success while fostering economic and environmental benefits in Raahe.

The acquisition aligns with Tokyo Gas Group’s broader sustainability goals, emphasizing renewable energy development and community engagement. “We are excited to bring our expertise to Finland and work alongside Puhuri and EWII to deliver reliable, clean energy,” a TG Nordic representative stated. The projects are expected to contribute significantly to Finland’s renewable energy targets while supporting the region’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
