PTT Secures First Long-Term LNG Export Contract Outside Thailand

Thailand’s state-owned oil and gas company, PTT, has entered into a heads of agreement (HoA) with Centrica Energy, a UK-based energy firm, for a multi-year supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The agreement, finalized in June 2025, stipulates that PTT will supply LNG to Centrica on a delivered ex-ship basis across various Asian destinations for ten years, with deliveries set to begin in 2028.

The partnership strengthens Centrica’s efforts to expand its LNG portfolio and enhances its presence in Asian markets. It also deepens the collaboration between Centrica and PTT, a key regional partner. Chris O’Shea, Centrica’s Chief Executive Officer, stated: “We are proud to partner with PTT. This agreement supports our global LNG ambitions and is a testament to the strong partnerships Centrica has built in Asia. LNG is a key part of Centrica’s long-term strategy and will continue to play a pivotal role in enabling the energy transition.”

For PTT, the deal marks its first long-term LNG sales contract outside Thailand, aligning with its goals for international expansion. Arturo Gallego, Head of LNG at Centrica Energy, noted: “This agreement is a landmark moment for the company’s aspirations to double the size of its LNG business.” The contract supports both companies’ ambitions to meet growing global energy demands through sustainable and reliable energy solutions.

In a related development, PTT signed a cooperation agreement with Glenfarne Alaska LNG earlier in June 2025 to explore potential collaboration on the Alaska LNG project. Meanwhile, Centrica secured a separate agreement with Norway’s Equinor to purchase 55 TWh of natural gas annually, equivalent to approximately 5 billion cubic meters, starting in October 2025. This volume is expected to meet nearly 10% of the UK’s annual gas demand, further diversifying Centrica’s energy supply sources.

The PTT-Centrica agreement facilitates access to diverse Asian markets, supporting the region’s energy needs while fostering long-term business relationships. By securing a decade-long LNG supply, the partnership enhances supply chain reliability and contributes to the global energy transition. The deal reflects a shared commitment to meeting market demands efficiently while promoting cleaner energy solutions.

This collaboration underscores the growing importance of LNG in global energy markets, particularly in Asia, where demand for flexible and sustainable energy sources continues to rise. The agreement positions both PTT and Centrica to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the LNG sector while supporting economic growth and energy security in their respective regions.
