The planned facility will add an additional 22,000 metric tons per year to Tosoh’s CR production capacity. The total investment for the project is estimated at approximately ¥75 billion. Construction is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2027, with the facility expected to become operational by 2030.
Chloroprene rubber, a high-performance functional polymer, is a key component of Tosoh’s Chemical Chain Business. Marketed under the Skyprene brand, CR is widely used in the production of automotive hoses and belts, industrial components, adhesives, and medical gloves. Its broad application range is attributed to its strong resistance to oil, weather conditions, and flame, making it suitable for demanding environments.
The company stated that the expansion is not only a response to anticipated increases in global demand but also a proactive step toward ensuring a stable supply of CR. By enlarging its production capabilities, Tosoh aims to strengthen its operational efficiency and improve profitability through economies of scale.
This development reflects Tosoh’s ongoing commitment to advancing specialty materials and reinforcing its position in the global rubber and synthetic polymer industry. The investment also supports the company’s objective of maintaining a resilient supply chain and addressing the needs of its global customer base across various industrial sectors.
Through this capacity enhancement, Tosoh expects to provide consistent and reliable access to CR, supporting industries that rely on high-performance materials for essential components and products.
