On June 10, CATL announced the production of its one-millionth battery pack tailored for Li Auto, marking a significant milestone in their decade-long partnership. Since Li Auto’s establishment in 2015, CATL has been its primary battery supplier, playing a key role in shaping the automaker’s product lineup. Their collaboration began with custom battery solutions for the Li ONE, extended to the L-series SUVs, and recently achieved a breakthrough with the all-electric Li MEGA MPV.

The Li MEGA features the co-developed 5C Qilin battery, which offers an extended range and rapid charging capabilities, adding 500 kilometers of range in just 12 minutes. This battery supports a peak charging rate of 5C, with a charging current exceeding 700A and peak power surpassing 520kW, representing a significant advancement in electric vehicle technology.

Joint development efforts for the 5C Qilin battery started in 2020, involving over 1,000 researchers from both companies. Of these, 280 engineers from Li Auto, 70% of whom focused on ultra-fast charging technologies, contributed to creating 5C battery cells, a thermal management system, and a safety architecture. This three-year collaboration has resulted in a robust and efficient battery system for Li Auto’s vehicles.

As of April, CATL’s battery technologies have powered over 19.25 million vehicles worldwide. The company reiterated its dedication to advancing the electric vehicle industry through innovation and strengthened partnerships. A CATL spokesperson stated: “CATL remains committed to advancing the high-quality development of the new energy vehicle industry through innovation and deeper collaboration with our partners.”

This milestone underscores the strong synergy between CATL and Li Auto, driving advancements in electric vehicle performance and charging efficiency. The partnership continues to support the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions, with both companies focused on delivering cutting-edge technologies to enhance vehicle range, safety, and user experience.

The success of the 5C Qilin battery highlights the importance of collaborative research in achieving breakthroughs in battery technology. As CATL and Li Auto deepen their partnership, they aim to further innovate, contributing to the global transition to cleaner energy and reinforcing their leadership in the electric vehicle market.
