The rebranding aims to align the Esposende site with NKT’s global identity, supporting a unified approach across all markets. The integration has progressed as scheduled since the acquisition, reflecting the company’s strategic focus on expanding its presence in response to growing demand from renewable energy and power grid upgrade projects across Europe.
This development is expected to enhance NKT’s ability to provide consistent, end-to-end solutions for customers in the power transmission industry. The firm’s strengthened presence in countries such as Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, and the UK will support its objective of contributing to the modernization of Europe’s aging electrical infrastructure.
Carlos Fernandez, Executive Vice President and Head of Applications at NKT, stated: “As the electrification of society continues to increase, Europe’s aging power grid is in substantial need of an upgrade. According to the International Energy Agency, investment in power grids needs to double by 2030 to support the necessary upgrades. Strengthening NKT’s footprint and offerings under one brand across Europe, while also investing to increase capacity and capabilities across multiple sites, will play a central role in supplying the necessary medium- and high-voltage power cables to modernise and connect Europe’s power grid.”
In support of its growth strategy, NKT is investing €50 million to expand the production capacity for medium- and high-voltage cables at the Esposende site, which currently employs 430 staff members. This investment follows NKT’s recent announcement regarding the naming of the second-tallest tower in the Nordics, which is part of the expansion of its cable manufacturing facility in Sweden.
In a related development, NKT recently hosted a factory acceptance test (FAT) at its Swedish facility for a dynamic subsea power export cable. This cable is part of the HKN1 offshore solar project, a collaboration between Oceans of Energy and CrossWindHKN, located at the Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) offshore wind farm.
These efforts reflect NKT’s ongoing commitment to supporting Europe’s energy transition and grid reliability, by increasing its manufacturing capacity and reinforcing its position as a key supplier in the regional power infrastructure sector.
