South Korean Shipbuilding Giant Joins Mærsk MC-Kinney Møller Center to Pursue Zero-Carbon Shipping Solutions

South Korean shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HDKSOE) has entered a strategic partnership with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMSZCS) to advance sustainable solutions for the maritime industry. This collaboration focuses on developing and scaling technologies to reduce carbon emissions in global shipping.

HDKSOE brings its expertise in ship design, engineering, digitalization, and next-generation propulsion systems to the partnership. The shipbuilder has been actively pursuing decarbonization through investments in green ship designs, ammonia- and methanol-powered vessels, fuel cell integration, and digital twin technologies aimed at lowering emissions. Its involvement is expected to enhance the Center’s efforts to translate innovative concepts into practical, large-scale applications.

Founded in 2020 with support from the A.P. Moller Foundation, the MMMSZCS collaborates with a diverse group of partners, including industry leaders, governments, scientists, and organizations, to drive decarbonization in the maritime sector. Its strategic partners include Alfa Laval, American Bureau of Shipping, A.P. Moller – Maersk, bp, Cargill, Equinor, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Siemens Energy, and others. The partnership with HDKSOE strengthens the Center’s mission to foster sustainable innovation and support the global transition to zero-carbon shipping.
