Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 Offshore Wind Farms in Poland Secure NIB Finance

Poland’s Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms, developed jointly by Equinor Wind Power, a subsidiary of Norway’s Equinor, and Polenergia, Poland’s largest private energy group, have secured long-term financing from the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB). The projects will receive 26-year loans of €64 million ($73.1 million) for Bałtyk 2 and €62 million for Bałtyk 3 to support their construction and operation in the Baltic Sea.

Each wind farm will have a capacity of 720MW, and together they will host 100 wind turbines.

Each company holds a 50% stake in the ventures, managed through MFW Bałtyk II sp. z o.o. and MFW Bałtyk III sp. z o.o., established specifically for these initiatives. Located 22 to 37 kilometers off Poland’s coast, the wind farms will each have a capacity of 720 MW, totaling 100 wind turbines. Together, they are expected to generate over 4,900 GWh of energy annually, contributing significantly to Poland’s renewable energy goals.

The financing is supported by the InvestEU programme, which aims to mobilize over €372 billion by 2027 to advance EU priorities, including sustainable energy. The NIB, the international financial institution of eight Nordic-Baltic countries, headquartered in Helsinki with a regional hub in Riga, has been an InvestEU partner since December 2022. Established in 1975 and operational since 1976, the NIB focuses on projects that enhance productivity and environmental outcomes in the region.

André Küüsvek, NIB president and CEO, stated: “Our long-term financing supports the cross-border cooperation that will bring benefits for the entire Nordic-Baltic region. These offshore wind developments will not only accelerate the energy transition in Poland but also make regional electricity markets more resilient.”

The InvestEU programme leverages a €26.2 billion EU budget guarantee to attract private and public investment, supporting initiatives like the European Green Deal and digital transformation. In May 2025, Equinor and Polenergia announced the financial close for Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, with a combined project value exceeding €6 billion. These wind farms are poised to strengthen Poland’s energy infrastructure and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, aligning with regional sustainability objectives.
