On Wednesday, China Southern Airlines flight CZ3383, operated by China's domestically produced C919 aircraft departes from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, South China's Guangdong Province and lands at Nanyang Jiangying Airport in Central China's Henan Province at 23:57 the same day.
Flight CZ3383, carrying 139 passengers, landed at Nanyang Jiangying Airport at 11:57 p.m. on Wednesday. This was the first time China Southern deployed the C919 on the Guangzhou-Nanyang route, expanding the aircraft’s commercial operations. The airline stated: “The home-grown C919 plane has made a key advancement in accelerating the development of China's modern aviation system, enhancing connectivity between major and regional routes for a fully integrated network.”
The C919 used for this flight is a standard-range model with a three-class layout, accommodating 164 seats. Following its debut, Nanyang Jiangying Airport will regularly support China Southern’s C919 operations, including flight training, technical validations, and periodic commercial flights. On June 5 and 6, 2025, the airline will conduct intensive flight training at the airport, with experienced captain instructors guiding pilots through exercises such as takeoffs, landings, and go-arounds to ensure operational readiness.
China Southern Airlines is collecting operational data to assess the C919’s performance and the airport’s ground support capabilities, while also enhancing the training of its flight crew. The airline plans to expand its C919 route network as more aircraft are delivered, supporting the growth of aviation and tourism in Central China.
By the end of May 2025, the C919 celebrated two years of commercial service. A total of 18 C919 aircraft have been delivered to China Eastern Airlines, Air China, and China Southern Airlines, operating on 24 routes across 16 cities and serving over 2 million passengers. As of May 27, 2025, China Eastern Airlines’ C919 fleet had completed over 11,400 commercial flights, logged more than 28,000 safe flight hours, and transported over 1.57 million passengers.
The C919, China’s first self-developed narrow-body passenger jet, has a maximum capacity of 192 seats. Built to international airworthiness standards, it features independently registered intellectual property rights, representing a significant achievement in China’s aviation industry.
