Eco Wave Power Secures Grid Access for 1MW Wave Energy Project in Porto

05 Jun 2025  by water power
Eco Wave Power Global AB has achieved a significant milestone in its inaugural Portuguese project by paying half of the grid connection fee for a planned 1MW wave energy power station in Porto. The payment, made to Portugal’s national grid operator E-REDES, confirms the company’s acceptance of the technical requirements for connecting to the country’s public electricity grid.

Scheduled for a provisional grid connection in 2026, this project represents the initial phase of a broader 20MW concession developed in collaboration with local port authorities. The site, referred to as “The Gallery,” has undergone recent upgrades to accommodate wave energy equipment while also preparing for public access as an underwater museum and educational center in the future.

Inna Braverman, CEO of Eco Wave Power, stated: “This milestone marks a turning point for wave energy in Portugal, aligning with the country’s ambitious renewable energy targets.” The project supports Portugal’s commitment to expanding sustainable energy sources, contributing to the nation’s clean energy goals.

The initiative reflects Eco Wave Power’s dedication to advancing wave energy technology while fostering community engagement through innovative public spaces. By integrating renewable energy production with educational and cultural elements, the Porto project aims to enhance both environmental sustainability and public awareness of clean energy solutions.
