The agreement was formalized through Singa Renewables, a joint venture equally owned by TotalEnergies and RGE. According to their joint statement, the utility-scale solar project will be built in multiple phases, though specific details such as total capacity were not disclosed.
The initiative aims to supply power to green industrial complexes in Riau province and facilitate solar energy exports to Singapore, supporting regional energy needs with renewable sources.
RGE Managing Director Imelda Tanoto stated: “Our co-investment agreement reflects our strong alignment with Indonesia’s National Transformation Strategy – supporting green energy self-sufficiency and its bio-based resources industry through high value-added services.”
Data from the Jakarta-based Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) indicates that Indonesia’s cumulative solar capacity exceeded 700 megawatts by August 2024, highlighting the country’s growing commitment to renewable energy.
