‘Danish Solar Power Production Hits New Heights'

01 Jun 2025  by renews
Denmark’s solar power sector achieved multiple production records in May 2025, as reported by grid operator Energinet. The country saw unprecedented daily and hourly outputs from solar parks, with the monthly production record also nearing a new high, pending weather conditions for the remainder of the week.

Energinet’s senior consultant, David Hartz, stated: “This does not come as a huge surprise, because we have seen a massive expansion with solar in recent years. But it does come as a nice confirmation that we’re going in the right direction with getting green power from solar cells into the grid and that it’s having an effect.” The surge reflects Denmark’s ongoing investment in solar infrastructure and its integration into the national grid.

Throughout May, five days recorded higher solar power output than any day in the previous year. Additionally, the hourly production record was surpassed 16 times, with a peak on May 5 when solar power accounted for 63% of Denmark’s electricity consumption during that hour. These milestones highlight the growing role of solar energy in meeting the country’s energy needs.

The potential to break the monthly solar production record, previously set at 638 GWh in June 2023, depends on favorable weather conditions through the end of May. Energinet’s data underscores the effectiveness of Denmark’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity, particularly through solar power, as part of its commitment to sustainable energy development.

These achievements demonstrate Denmark’s progress in transitioning to clean energy sources, reducing reliance on traditional fuels, and supporting environmental goals. The continued expansion of solar infrastructure is expected to further strengthen the country’s renewable energy framework, ensuring a stable and sustainable electricity supply.
