TFS has brought together 40 organizations from Scotland’s financial, project development, and public sectors to advance net-zero initiatives. The effort targets investment in energy, infrastructure, carbon capture, floating offshore wind, and the built environment. Utilizing GFI’s expertise in finance, policy, and project development, TFS aims to overcome barriers to funding and create innovative financial solutions.

The initiative will focus on identifying investable projects, addressing funding shortages, and building sector coalitions to drive investment in Scotland’s low-carbon transition. TFS will work to maximize public sector financing to encourage private investment, supporting economic growth and job opportunities. It will also partner with the UK and Scottish governments, alongside entities like GB Energy and the Scottish National Investment Bank, to secure project funding.

Set to launch in Edinburgh on June 19, TFS is chaired by Graeme Jones, former chief executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise. The initiative was developed pro bono by Alba Partners and Pinsent Masons, both based in Edinburgh.

Jones remarked: “Transition Finance Scotland brings together two of Scotland’s most valuable sectors - energy and finance - to help deliver significant new investment in net zero projects. The scale of the challenge is significant, but so is the opportunity – not only to help accelerate the energy transition, but also to create jobs and economic growth across Scotland.”

GFI chief executive Rhian-Mari Thomas OBE said: “Scotland is uniquely positioned as a key player in the transition, with world class financial services alongside legacy energy infrastructure and renewables. We look forward to deploying our expertise and approach, partnering with key Scottish and global investors to unlock private capital at scale.”
