From January to April 2025, Germany’s newly installed PV capacity totaled 4.65 GW, slightly below the 4.98 GW recorded for the same period in 2024. By the end of April, the nation’s cumulative PV capacity reached 104.9 GW, underscoring its ongoing commitment to renewable energy development.
The Bundesnetzagentur reported that balcony solar systems accounted for 53 MW of April’s new capacity, while rooftop PV systems contributed 449.4 MW. Additionally, 151 ground-mounted solar plants, with a combined capacity of 245.6 MW, were connected to the grid during the month.
For the first four months of 2025, the breakdown of new installations included 152.7 MW from balcony solar devices, 2,530.2 MW from rooftop systems, 1,945 MW from utility-scale projects, and 46.6 MW from other systems. A Bundesnetzagentur spokesperson stated: “The continued growth of PV installations, particularly in rooftop and balcony systems, reflects the increasing adoption of solar energy across diverse applications in Germany.”
These figures highlight Germany’s steady progress in expanding its solar energy infrastructure, with contributions from both small-scale residential systems and large-scale ground-mounted projects. The data underscores the country’s efforts to advance sustainable energy solutions and meet growing electricity demands through renewable sources.
