ICEYE, a global leader in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, has opened a new office in Athens, Greece, to strengthen its presence in the region. This development supports ICEYE’s participation in the Greek National Satellite Space Program – Axis 1.2, in collaboration with the Hellenic Space Agency and the Ministry of Digital Governance.

Announced in September 2024, Axis 1.2 includes the Greek SAR Space Segment, encompassing radar imagery and the development of a Greek Observation System with two ICEYE SAR satellites and their launches. Greece will also gain access to ICEYE’s existing SAR satellite constellation, enhancing its space-based observation capabilities.

The Athens office features a satellite assembly production line, creating job opportunities in the expanding space industry. ICEYE’s investment in infrastructure and talent development aims to establish Greece as a regional hub for space technology. The company’s growth strategy includes a Centre of Excellence to harness local talent, advanced technologies, and market potential, fostering employment for Greek scientists and engineers.

Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE, stated: “We are very proud of the commencement of our operations in Greece, a strategic hub for ICEYE’s expansion in South Eastern Europe. We very much look forward to strengthening our collaboration with the Greek space industry and to accelerating its growth.”

Vasilis Chaloulakos, Head of ICEYE Greece, added: “We are working hard to set a solid foundation in Greece to guarantee our future success and more in-country investment. ICEYE is one of the most promising companies in the world, and we want to leverage that to promote the Greek ecosystem into the center of the European space industry.”

ICEYE’s Board of Directors visited Greece during the office inauguration, meeting with partners and clients to underscore the strategic importance of the Greek market. The company’s presence is expected to enhance the local space sector by attracting skilled professionals and fostering expertise in SAR technology.

This initiative supports Greece’s ambitions to advance its space industry, contributing to economic growth and technological innovation. By developing sovereign satellite capabilities, ICEYE’s collaboration with Greek authorities aligns with the country’s goals to meet domestic needs for advanced observation systems while strengthening its position in the European space market.
