Gstar Launches Solar Cell, Module Production in the Philippines

15 May 2025  by pv magazine
Gstar, a Singapore-based photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer, has launched its first n-type solar module, marking a significant milestone in the company's growth. The module uses 183.75 mm n-type cells arranged in a 72-cell bifacial dual-glass format. By optimizing cell spacing and maximizing the active area, the module achieves a peak output of 595W and a conversion efficiency of 23.03%. Designed for commercial and industrial applications, as well as large-scale solar power stations, it is equipped with advanced features such as laser non-destructive scribing, SMBB technology, and high-density encapsulation. Additionally, the module offers high bifaciality, improved low-light performance, and lower temperature coefficients.

The launch of this new module coincides with the opening of Gstar's new production base in the Philippines. The factory, located in Subic Bay, west of Manila, has completed its base construction and is now fully operational. The facility currently has a manufacturing capacity of 1 GW for solar modules and 1.5 GW for solar cells. Mass production of the new module is scheduled to begin on May 18, 2025. As part of its long-term growth plan, Gstar will soon commence the second phase of construction at the facility, which will increase the solar module manufacturing capacity to 2 GW.

In addition to the Philippines facility, Gstar operates a 3 GW silicon wafer production plant in Indonesia. The site received monocrystalline growth furnaces in April 2025, further expanding its capabilities. Gstar has also signed a memorandum of understanding for a 2 GW solar module manufacturing project in the United Arab Emirates, which is set to begin in August 2024.

With these expansions, Gstar is positioning itself as a key player in the global solar energy market, aiming to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy solutions.
