Argentine Pork Arrives in the Philippines for the First Time

13 May 2025  by ukragroconsult
Argentina has successfully completed its first pork export to the Philippines, a rapidly growing market ranked as the sixth largest pork importer globally, surpassing countries like the United States, Canada, and Japan. This milestone expands opportunities for Argentine producers in the Asian market.

The initial shipment, originating from a prominent company in Marcos Paz, Buenos Aires Province, consisted of pork offal not typically consumed domestically. This export creates new avenues for Argentine producers to add value and increase profitability by tapping into international demand for such products.

The Philippines marks the third new market for Argentina’s pork sector in 2024, following the opening of Paraguay for chilled offal and fresh/chilled boneless pork. Additionally, Argentina has expanded its pork export destinations this year to include the European Union for gelatin and edible pork by-products, Ecuador and South Africa for porcine hemoderivatives, Brazil for breeding pigs, and Uruguay for fresh/chilled boneless pork, pork skins, semen, and live animals.

The successful entry into the Philippine market highlights the growing global demand for Argentine pork products. By exporting offal, producers can utilize parts of the supply chain that have limited local consumption, thereby enhancing economic returns. The operation from Marcos Paz demonstrates the capability of Argentina’s pork industry to meet international standards and compete in high-value markets.

This export achievement aligns with Argentina’s broader strategy to diversify its agricultural export markets. The addition of the Philippines as a key destination strengthens the country’s position in the global pork trade, complementing its established presence in other regions. The pork sector’s expansion into multiple markets in 2024 reflects the industry’s adaptability and focus on meeting varied international demands.

The Philippine market’s significance as a major pork importer underscores the potential for sustained trade growth. Argentine producers are well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity, leveraging their expertise to supply high-quality products. The successful shipment from Buenos Aires Province sets a foundation for future exports, fostering economic benefits for the region’s pork industry.
