BKV Corporation has entered a strategic joint venture with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), representing its Energy Transition Fund I, to advance carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) projects across the United States. The partnership aims to expand low-carbon energy solutions by leveraging the strengths of both companies.

Under the agreement, CIP will invest up to $500 million for a 49% stake in the joint venture, while BKV retains a 51% majority interest. BKV contributes its existing CCUS projects, Barnett Zero in North Texas and Eagle Ford in South Texas, along with related assets and future capital commitments. BKV will serve as the operator for all joint venture projects, and the partnership will seek additional investment-ready CCUS opportunities.

Chris Kalnin, Chief Executive Officer of BKV, stated: “This strategic partnership with CIP, a world-scale asset manager of low-carbon infrastructure projects, further strengthens the economics of BKV’s CCUS business while enabling the acceleration of its growth. Together, we will expand our pipeline of carbon capture, utilization and sequestration projects to help meet the increasing demand for low-carbon energy solutions. By combining BKV’s technical and operating expertise in developing and scaling CCUS projects with CIP’s expansive network, project portfolio, and experience in infrastructure development, we are well positioned to grow our CCUS business.”

BKV’s CCUS portfolio includes multiple projects at various development stages. The Barnett Zero Project, operational since November 2023 in North Texas, has sequestered over 200,000 tons of CO2 equivalent. The Eagle Ford Project in South Texas is expected to begin initial injection in the first half of 2026, pending necessary permits and agreements. Additional projects from BKV’s growing CCUS portfolio are slated for inclusion in the joint venture as they advance.

The collaboration combines BKV’s expertise in CCUS development and operations with CIP’s experience in large-scale, low-carbon infrastructure. This partnership positions the joint venture to meet rising demand for sustainable energy solutions, expand into new markets, and contribute to reducing carbon emissions across various industries and regions in the United States.
