Avaada Group, an integrated energy company, has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra’s Water Resources Department to develop two pumped storage hydro projects with a total capacity of 3,650 MW. The agreement was signed in Maharashtra, India, to advance the state’s renewable energy infrastructure.

The projects include the 2,400 MW Pawana Falyan and the 1,200 MW Sirsala pumped storage initiatives, with a combined investment of INR 151 billion ($1.8 billion). These developments are projected to generate over 3,800 direct jobs, contributing to local economic growth. The initiatives aim to enhance Maharashtra’s energy reliability by providing continuous renewable power, supporting grid stability, and facilitating the integration of clean energy into the state’s electricity network.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the state’s ambition to become a leading hub for green energy in India. He stated: “The state aims to become India’s green energy hub and offered full state government support to accelerate project execution.” This commitment underscores the government’s dedication to expediting the projects’ implementation.

Vineet Mittal, Chairman of Avaada Group, highlighted the significance of the agreement for sustainable energy development. He noted: “This agreement is a decisive step towards securing India’s clean energy future. Pumped storage solutions are pivotal for maintaining grid reliability and ensuring renewable energy availability round-the-clock.” The projects are designed to address the growing demand for stable and eco-friendly energy sources.

By leveraging pumped storage technology, these initiatives will store excess energy and release it during peak demand, ensuring a consistent power supply. The projects align with India’s broader goals of expanding renewable energy capacity and reducing reliance on non-renewable sources, contributing to a more sustainable energy ecosystem in Maharashtra.

Avaada’s collaboration with the Maharashtra government marks a significant milestone in advancing clean energy infrastructure, fostering economic opportunities, and supporting the state’s vision of becoming a leader in renewable energy production.
