A Longi spokesperson stated: “We presented our advanced back-contact (BC) solar technology and explored opportunities for establishing manufacturing operations in Algeria, aligning with the nation’s industrial development objectives.” The spokesperson further noted: “The Algerian government expressed strong support for initiatives that generate industrial value and welcomed Longi’s commitment to sustainable industrialization.”
The Ministry of Energy and Mining highlighted that the talks emphasized strengthening collaboration between companies in the renewable energy sector. Topics included investment prospects in solar projects, green hydrogen technology, and energy storage solutions. The ministry remarked: “The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of localizing the solar panel industry in Algeria, based on solar cells. This will contribute to enhancing local content in renewable energy and support Algeria’s aspirations to become an industrial and export platform.”
Both parties explored potential strategic partnerships with local operators and national research centers to foster innovation and integration. These efforts aim to bolster Algeria’s renewable energy infrastructure and promote economic development through sustainable practices.
Earlier this month, Longi announced a breakthrough with its hybrid interdigitated back contact (HIBC) crystalline silicon solar cell, achieving a power conversion efficiency of 27.81%, a global record for a full-size silicon wafer. This advancement underscores Longi’s expertise in high-efficiency solar technology, which could benefit Algeria’s renewable energy ambitions.
In January, Algeria launched a tender for three solar projects with a combined capacity of 520 MW. According to the International softwares Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Algeria’s total installed solar capacity stood at 462 MW by the end of 2024, reflecting steady progress in the sector. The discussions between Longi and Algerian officials signal a shared commitment to expanding renewable energy capabilities and fostering industrial growth in the region.
