RCL currently has vessels under construction at Shanghai Waigaoqiao and Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, indicating its ongoing collaboration with Chinese shipbuilders.
Ranked 20th on Alphaliner’s list of largest carriers, RCL operates 28 owned ships with a total capacity of 86,400 TEU. With 17 newbuilds now in its orderbook, including the latest additions, the company’s carrying capacity is set to more than double upon delivery. This expansion strengthens RCL’s position in the global shipping industry.
RCL stated in a release: “The additional orders of 11,000 teu and 4,400 teus vessels align with the company’s strategy to enhance its fleet, expand operations into new markets, and strengthen its existing network. This initiative not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports the long-term time charter-out market, which is expected to remain in high demand.” The new ships are designed to improve service offerings and meet growing market needs.
